A warm fuzzy feeling.

Jeremy Roenick loves hockey. He is rededicating himself to the game. He is doing it for you and me, the NHL fan. Really, he said so. I think I need to hug someone.

After years of being over rated and over paid JR is out of a contract. Now he is trying hard to sell himself to potential suitors. His problem is that his recent performance has been woeful. I will give him credit for using the one tool that he has that is always “working” in some way…. his mouth.

It was not so long ago the Jeremy was telling us all the "kiss his ass" and that we were all jealous of him. Now we are his friends. What a tool.

I don’t think JR is going to fool anyone, except maybe the Leafs, into giving him a big contract. If he ends up in Montreal or Edmonton I will cry.

Le Tour de Dopage

As a causal fan of Le Tour de France my interest in it this year was a little higher. Lance Armstrong will not be there and for me that is a good thing. I never much cared for him and I have been constantly frustrated how the race would seemingly be handed to him year after year (that is another strory). The whole doping issue did nothing to endear himself to me either. I have not use for athletes who will boldly and loudly claim they have never “knowingly” taken performance enhancers. It’s BS. I find it very hard to believe that any elite athlete from the past 20 years is truly clean. Why don’t you just admit it, take your lumps and move on? I am sure there are some athletes who are clean but those are few and far between and my feeling is that Armstrong is not one of them.

That brings me to the recent news that Jan Ullrich and Ivan Basso, the two biggest favorites for this year’s race, have been banned for their association with blood doping. I am not sure what to think about this yet. It is good to have a no tolerance policy but you need to have clear evidence of an infraction first. What would happen if Major League Baseball took on this policy?

In any case this decision sends a clear message to the riders and I have not doubt that this will be an effective deterrent to the remaining competitors.

Cinematic Nitrous Oxide

My Wife and I decided in an effort to combat the total crap that is infiltrating our cable we should watch more movies. The goal is to not waste so much time getting sucked into watching the boob tube and waste our time watching quality entertainment. I eagerly came up with suggestions like Star Wars and the Search for the Holy Grail. After a blank stare my Wife explained what she meant by “movies.” What she would like to do is watch all the movies that were nominated for Academy Awards for 2005. Being a good husband I agreed to this despite my reservations for the Academy’s history of award winning films. I don’t follow it very closely but it seems to me that most nominated films are very boring or foreign (or a combination of both). I decided to go in with the attitude that they must be nominated for a reason, right? To kick of the festivities my wife brought home Capote. Now you will get to share my pain.

First, I have to say I knew nothing about Capote or who he was before this movie. I thought his named kind of sounded Italian so I was secretly hoping to see some mafia thuggery. Man was I wrong.

It turns out Capote was a gay writer with a squeaky voice. The movie follows Truman Capote as he researches a story about the murder of a family in Kansas. He travels to Kansas and proceeds to bore me for 113 minutes. The director seems to like showing us trees with no leaves. Riveting. There is a hanging at the end which was not a nice thing to watch while I was fighting to stay awake. I really can’t think of anything at all that I found enjoyable about this movie. It is a steaming pile of donkey crap.

Philip Seymour Hoffman portrays Capote and he seems to be nearly comatose. That must have been what he was going for because he won best actor for that tour de force. Perhaps if I had stayed awake during the whole movie I may have found something good. Probably not. Unless you have insomnia or get excited watching Al Gore speak, do not rent this blight on entertainment.

I can’t wait until the next movie.

Greetings...

Thanks for dropping by. You are not going to find much here as of yet but that should change soon. I have attempted to blog before but it didn't really work out. I think I tried too hard to make my blog have a specific identity that I was not fully committed to. This time around my plan is to let this blog find its own identity. For now I will be writing about what ever happens to be holding my thoughts at the moment. Most importantly I will try not to take this too seriously. I hope you come back again to visit and see where this is going.
